How to Beat Dybbuk — Boneyard Boss Guide
Complete strategy guide for defeating Dybbuk, the Act 1 Boneyard boss in Mewgenics. Learn the bait-and-bramble tactic, best abilities, and how to survive the possession phase.
Dybbuk is the Boneyard boss from Act 1, and he’s a tricky one — you cannot hit him directly. Every shot you fire? He dodges it. This guide breaks down the bait-and-bramble strategy that makes this fight manageable.
The Core Problem: Dodge Mechanic
Dybbuk automatically evades all direct attacks. Forget your usual ranged spam — it won’t work here.
The solution: Area of Effect (AoE) weapons and abilities.
Best Abilities for This Fight
Not all AoE is created equal. Here’s what works best:
| Ability | Class | Why It’s Great |
|---|---|---|
| Bramble Shot | Hunter | Top-tier. Creates persistent damage zones |
| Spin | Fighter | Wide arc catches boss post-dodge |
| Sucker Punch | Fighter | Perfect bait move, strikes when boss approaches |
| Tower Defense (Passive) | Hunter | Auto-fires when boss moves in range |
Tip: The Hunter’s Tower Defense passive is clutch here. It triggers after Dybbuk’s dodge, so he can’t evade twice.
The Bait-and-Bramble Strategy
This is the core tactic that makes the fight consistent:
Step 1: Set Up the Kill Zone
- Pick one cat as bait (ideally a Fighter with Spin + Sucker Punch)
- Position the bait cat in the bottom-left corner
- Surround the area with brambles, fire, or traps
Step 2: Retreat Your Other Cats
- Pull your remaining cats to a safe distance
- Stay close enough to hit the boss with long-range weapons
- You’re not trying to hit him directly — you’re making him hop onto brambles
Step 3: Let the Boss Dance
As Dybbuk chases your bait cat, he’ll constantly hop around, landing on your damage tiles. The brambles do the work for you.
Warning: Fire works but it’s risky. Fire spreads and stacks quickly, which can get out of control. Brambles are safer and more predictable.
Dealing with Purple Orbs
During the fight, Dybbuk spawns purple orbs. Handle these immediately.
- Leaving them alone creates uncontrollable fire
- Move other cats into position if needed
- Taking some damage is better than dealing with a fire later
The Possession Phase (Critical)
Here’s the twist: the cat that lands the killing blow gets possessed by Dybbuk.
How to Handle It
- Track which cat is about to deal the final hit
- Ensure your weakest cat gets the kill — lowest health, worst abilities
- The possessed cat will attack your team
Good news: The possessed cat doesn’t have the dodge ability anymore. Your brambles and traps in the bottom-left corner will damage it before it reaches your other cats.
Pro Tips
A few extra tricks to make this fight smoother:
- Healing damages Dybbuk — He doesn’t heal from it. Use cheap AoE heals offensively
- Heals manipulate movement — Cast heals to make him hop more, triggering more bramble damage
- Scout for AoE before the boss — Check your cats’ abilities before entering the Boneyard
Quick Reference Checklist
Before fighting Dybbuk, make sure you have:
- At least one cat with AoE abilities (Hunter or Fighter preferred)
- Bramble Shot or similar trap-laying ability
- A designated “bait” cat you’re okay with getting possessed
- A weak cat ready to land the killing blow
