Inventory management is one of the biggest challenges in early Mewgenics. You start with very limited space and constantly have to make tough decisions about what to keep and what to discard. Here’s how to expand your storage.

How to Get More Inventory Space

The primary way to increase inventory space in Mewgenics is through the NPC Butch.

Donating to Butch

Butch requires cats that have participated in battles in specific game zones:

  • Send cats on adventures and fight in different areas
  • The more zones a cat has visited, the more valuable the donation
  • After donating, Butch grants permanent inventory upgrades

What Butch Unlocks

Each level of Butch provides:

  • More carry slots during adventures
  • Additional home storage containers
  • Better organization options for items

Prioritize leveling Butch as your first NPC upgrade — the quality of life improvement is enormous.

Managing Limited Inventory

While you’re working toward more inventory space, here are tips to survive:

Prioritize What You Carry

In order of importance:

  1. Food — absolutely essential, never discard
  2. Healing items — Super Bandages and Smelling Salts save runs
  3. Quest items — don’t accidentally discard these
  4. Equipment — only if it’s a significant upgrade
  5. Coins — take up no space, always pick up

Use the Trash Feature

The Trash acts as a temporary overflow:

  • Discarded items go to the trash temporarily
  • You can retrieve items from trash before end of day
  • Use it as a holding area while sorting inventory

Eat Food on the Battlefield

During battles, if you find food items:

  • Consume them immediately rather than trying to store them
  • Food eaten in battle still provides nutrition
  • This saves inventory space for non-consumable items

Excess cats should be donated to NPCs:

  • Every donated cat provides upgrade progress
  • Don’t keep cats you don’t plan to breed or fight with
  • Even low-quality cats have donation value

Long-Term Inventory Strategy

Once Butch is leveled up, inventory management becomes much easier. At higher levels:

  • You can carry enough food for extended adventures
  • Equipment swaps become practical
  • Stockpiling healing items becomes viable
  • Home storage holds backup equipment and breeding supplies

Investment in Butch early pays massive dividends for the entire rest of the game.
