Mewgenics features 14 unique classes, each tied to a specific collar. You start with 4 collars and unlock the remaining 10 through gameplay progression. Here’s exactly how to get each one.

Starting Classes in Mewgenics

These collars are available immediately when you start the game:

CollarClassStats
HunterRanged DPS+2 Speed, +1 Luck
FighterMelee DPS+2 Attack, +1 HP
MageAoE Caster+2 Magic, +1 Speed
TankDefender+3 Defense, +1 HP

You’ll use these four classes for your first several runs until you can start unlocking new ones.

How to Unlock New Classes

The key NPC for unlocking classes is Butch. Here’s the process:

  1. Progress through game zones — each zone corresponds to a collar unlock
  2. Return to your home base after reaching a new area
  3. Talk to Butch — he’ll offer the new collar as a reward
  4. Equip the collar on any cat to assign that class

Some collars require you to have completed certain areas or met specific conditions. Keep pushing further into the game to unlock them all.

While the unlock order is largely determined by your zone progression, here’s what to prioritize when you have a choice:

  1. Cleric (critical) — Get this as soon as possible. Healing wins runs.
  2. Fighter/Butcher (either one) — You need strong DPS options early.
  3. Thief — The Pickpocket ability is great for resource generation.
  4. Monk — Solid A-tier combat option.
  5. Others — Unlock the rest as you naturally progress.

Tips for Faster Class Unlocks

  • Push zone progression as your primary goal in early runs
  • Don’t worry about losing cats — even failed runs count as zone progress if you reached new areas
  • Talk to Butch after every expedition — collars unlock through conversation, not automatically
  • Donate cats to Butch to also unlock inventory upgrades alongside collars
  • The Blank Collar is unique — it’s purchased from Tracy, not unlocked through Butch
