All Upgrades in Mewgenics — NPC Upgrade Guide
Complete guide to all upgrades available in Mewgenics, which NPCs provide them, and the requirements for unlocking each one.
Upgrades in Mewgenics come from interacting with NPCs at your home base. Each NPC requires you to donate cats that meet specific criteria, and in return they provide permanent improvements to your home, inventory, and other systems.
NPC Upgrade System in Mewgenics
Every NPC in your home base offers a unique set of upgrades. To level them up, you need to donate cats that match their requirements. Once donated, the cat is gone forever — but the upgrade is permanent across all future runs.
Butch — Item Storage Upgrades
Requirements: Cats that have participated in battles in specific game zones.
Butch is the most important NPC to level up first. His upgrades include:
- Increased inventory space — more slots for items and equipment
- Additional storage containers at home base
- Expanded item carry capacity during adventures
- New collar unlocks as you progress through zones
The more zones a donated cat has visited, the more useful they are for Butch. Prioritize donating cats that have fought in multiple areas.
Baby Jack — Furniture Upgrades
Requirements: Kittens (young cats).
Baby Jack unlocks better furniture options for your home:
- Comfort-boosting furniture (reduces injuries and illness)
- Simulation-enhancing items (improves breeding trait inheritance)
- Decorative options that affect home stats
- Room-specific furniture for specialized breeding setups
Invest in Baby Jack’s upgrades after Butch for better home management.
Tink — Breeding Information
Requirements: Cats for research donations.
Tink reveals hidden information about your cats:
- Sexual orientation data
- Hidden trait visibility (shows traits not visible by default)
- Compatibility indicators between cats
- Inbreeding warnings to avoid problematic offspring
- Advanced breeding predictions
Tink’s upgrades don’t add new items — instead, they give you the knowledge to breed more effectively.
Frank — House Expansion
Requirements: Cats for construction labor.
Frank expands your home base:
- Additional rooms for housing more cats
- Larger room sizes for better furniture placement
- Specialized rooms with unique properties
- Expanded home capacity — critical as your cat numbers grow
Without Frank’s upgrades, you’ll quickly run out of space for your growing clowder.
Tracy — Shop and Collar Upgrades
Requirements: Retired cats or cats with specific conditions.
Tracy provides shop-related upgrades:
- Expanded food storage capacity
- Access to Blank Collars (removes class bonuses for breeding purposes)
- Better shop inventory with rare items
- Discount improvements for recurring purchases
Dr. Beanies — Side Quest System
Requirements: Cats with specific traits or conditions.
Dr. Beanies unlocks the side quest system:
- Quest board access with reward-bearing missions
- Special event triggers during adventures
- Unique reward items not available elsewhere
Dr. Beanies is lower priority because quests are supplementary rather than essential.
Organ Grinder — Automatic Upgrades
Requirements: Levels up automatically based on failed runs.
The Organ Grinder is unique — it upgrades itself when your runs go poorly:
- Provides pity rewards after failed adventures
- Generates passive bonuses based on cumulative losses
- No cat donation needed — progress comes from failing
While you shouldn’t deliberately fail, it’s reassuring to know that even bad runs contribute to something.
