Mewgenics Launches in Early Access on Steam
Edmund McMillen's long-awaited cat-breeding tactical roguelike is finally available on Steam Early Access.
After years of anticipation, Mewgenics has officially launched in Early Access on Steam. The game — originally announced in 2012 and long considered a “mythical” project — marks Edmund McMillen’s return to new IP development following the massive success of The Binding of Isaac.

The Early Access version includes:
- Act 1 with multiple zones and branching paths
- 14 collar classes to discover and unlock
- Full breeding system with trait inheritance and mutations
- Home base management with NPC upgrades
- Tactical turn-based combat on grid-based maps
- Procedurally generated adventures with events and bosses

Mewgenics has had one of the longest development cycles in indie gaming:
- 2012: First announced by Edmund McMillen
- 2013-2014: Early development alongside Binding of Isaac DLC

- 2024-2025: Active development with community teaser updates
